I got Mom's Santa that Grandma Babe painted for her when Mom moved into her apartment. I've been wanting to get it framed but figured it would be expensive. Della suggested covering the old wood with fabric. (She's so cleaver!!) So, I headed to Walmart today to look for possible fabrics keeping in mind the bright limeish green Grandma Babe choose for the background. (I should have taken a better "before" picture!)
I am so excited with how it turned out. It cost me $12 to cover it including the quilt batting.
The corners didn't quite turn out like I wanted so I made some fabric bands for all the corners. Everything is stapled on. (Grandma Babe loved the invention of staple guns!)
Tada! Santa is now over the fireplace just like he was when I was a kid! (I just noticed the date stamp on my picture - 12/11 the date we celebrated Dad's bithday! How fitting I get the bee in my bonnet to do this today in honor of his step mother!) As I was working on this project and tearing off the layers of foil paper and exposed the rough bare wood she used, I couldn't help feel close to her as she made the frame herself!! What an amazing woman!

So Donna Calls me and says Check out my Blog....I hadn't checked out her Kevin stuff yet, so I needed to visit it anyway. I told her that I had a thought today that I would take it and take it apart, then I could make a copy of it like Ruthie did. TOO LATE. It looks great! See, not as expensive to do as you thought Plus you still have Grandma Babes frame!
Look at you crafty lady, the picture looks gorgeous now and it didn't cost you an arm and a leg! Great job!
It looks fabulous! Good job Donna! LOVE IT!
That looks SO good!!! Great job! I love the Santa pictures!!! It just wouldn't be Christmas without him up.
GREAT JOB!! I love the bands you did on the corners - so creative my dear!!! I've stood in front of the candy house several times this season just to be additionally amazed at how creative she was with only a hammer, straight pins, a staple gun and regular elmers glue. Great job!
I finally got to blog stock and see your creation. I am very impressed!! I am also glad you have it in your home ... it is such a special keepsake and memory of Grandma Babe!! Good job Donna!!
Whoa- it looks beautiful above your fire place! I love ours that hangs every year and we get to share the Grandma Babe story with all our visitors! Your fabric frame looks fabulous! Good job!
